Arts Council
(DAC)

Dixie Arts Council (DAC) advocates for dynamic arts education programs and events to enrich the learning experience for each child at Dixie. DAC is a collaborative effort among volunteer parents, teachers and staff with a mission to expand the academic process by integrating art, music, and theater arts into the traditional curriculum and classroom instructions in order to educate the whole child. Please let us know when your class preforms, so we can upload the pics and clips to our On Stage page. Please contact Maya Bartolf with any content suggestions, or forward appropriate digital images and/or content to be posted monthly.
The Music Dept. is always in need of good, used instruments for our program. This year we loaned out over 100 instruments to students. If your child has a violin that is too small, or a clarinet or trumpet not being played - please consider donating to us. You will receive a donation letter (tax deductible) from the school district for the market value of the instrument. Call Sherry Vakharia at the Music Dept. office at 492-3708 or email: svakharia@marin.k12.ca.us for more information. Thank you for your support of the Music program.
This Fall Site Council and DAC look forward to sponsoring another year of Lego Lunch at Dixie. At lunch recess, students 1st - 5th grades have an opportunity to create, imagine, and build community with their peers which is a playground alternative for kids who might like a break from physical play for a more creative and cerebral play. See how much fun we have creating together! A HUGE thank you to all the Dixie families and Dixie Alums who generously donated many thousands of colorful pieces, so that our students can build and imagine. Our hats-off to the Lego Lunch Volunteers: Heidi Paul Haggerty and Maya Bartolf!

Fall 2011
Welcome Back!
Dac is looking forward to another exciting year supporting the arts programs at Dixie. We hope you will join in the fun and creative chaos, and volunteer to support Art, Music, and Drama at Dixie. Your volunteer efforts will make a difference in bringing quality arts programs to our schools. Also, it is imperative to give to our annual Can Do! campaign to support these essential programs that expand the academic process, and allow each child to explore and grow to their full potential.
Is there a role for you at DAC? We can bet there probably is, and that you don’t even have to attend a meeting to support art, music, and theater arts programs at Dixie. DAC volunteers are mostly a loose network of Dixie parents who generously help when they are needed, and are available for a variety of events and tasks. Most volunteers have never attended the monthly meetings, but respond to periodic email request for help supporting an immediate need in the art or drama rooms, or for an upcoming event or assembly. DAC also has a handful of very dedicated super stars who take on leadership roles in many of our school’s favorite activities throughout the year such as: The Dixie Doodle Fund Raiser, The Annual Student Variety Show, The Annual 3rd Grade Art Works Downtown Gallery Exhibit, and The Annual Student Art Show. Whatever your role, we invite you to join in the fun, and support Art, Music, and Drama at Dixie! We hope to see you at our next meeting in September or sign-up to be on our Helping Hand email list. Contact Maya Bartolf for more information.
DAC Casting Call
for Parent Volunteers
Volunteering in the Art Room for you child’s class is a wonderful way to help out as a parent of a Dixie student. Some classroom volunteer rolls are very structured, and task oriented; but the Art Room offers a relaxed and creative environment for a rewarding volunteer experience. Parents can get to know the creative personalities of their child’s friends and classmates while lending a helping hand in facilitating art lessons, and project clean up! Please be sure to sign-up in your child’s class during Parent Night or contact Claire McDowell, Upper Grade Art Teacher.
